Meet Laura Hois
Committed to the Community
Laura Hois is a public servant and attorney with a solo practice in Downers Grove with more than twenty years’ experience in real estate, local government, estate planning, and corporate law. From individuals to business owners, non-profits and corporations, Laura has fought to advance her clients’ interests and protect their bottom line.
During her nineteen years as in-house counsel for McDonald’s Corporation – she advised senior management on franchising and operations-related issues. She served as U.S. Energy Counsel, securing cost-saving electric energy contracts. As McDonald’s first-ever Legal Department Training Manager, she led negotiations training in regional offices throughout the country. She helped to advance careers as chair of McDonald’s 350-member Women’s Leadership Network.
Laura was recognized for her outstanding pro bono work and community involvement on behalf of the company when she received the Chicago Bar Foundation’s Exelon Corporate Counsel of the Year Award in 2006 and the Volunteer of the Year Award for Disability and Elder Law in 2005. More recently, she has volunteered with local organizations such as Christ Church of Oak Brook, Grove Fest Downers Grove, and SEASPAR – a special recreation association that provides dynamic programs and quality recreation services for people with disabilities.
As Town Clerk of Downers Grove Township, she supported local programs and cost-saving initiatives, led the annual town meeting, and represented the Township at Chamber, Village, and community events.
She became Deputy Assessor at Sugar Grove Township, where she was known for her professionalism, knowledge, and for providing top-notch customer service to residents and other government offices.
Laura believes state government has failed taxpayers by mismanaging funds and continually asking people to pay more without first implementing necessary government reforms. She strongly objects to the Illinois General Assembly’s unwillingness to control spending and face the debt problem head-on. Laura will promote job growth, sustainable economic opportunity, and common-sense solutions to get Illinois back on track.
She received her J.D. with distinction from DePaul University College of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Business from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Laura and her husband Billy live in Downers Grove and have raised four children.
